You need to install the correct version of Visual Studio, which i think was VS 2012.

For everyone else having this problem, get the attached DLLs in the download button of this reply. Put them in the same folder as the tools, and it will work!

I feel so dumb right now... thanks, it worked! All I had to do was running the game as administrator.

Your mod is awesome, never completed a skirmish of me+ 7 Aragorn-difficult mode though. Neither me and my brother vs 6 Aragorn. Once we build 2 rows of tower and loads of enemies flod the map the game crashes every time.
May I suggest something? Elven Archers unable to take down a building is depressing and Elven Lightbearer is now insane. Theoden requires a Mordor Fortress, but you can't build that, can you?

Welcome to this mod made for fun. It makes the game more dynamic and crazy in the late-game. The early-game looks the same.

Core features:
  • 250 population limit.
  • AI is capable of sending bigger armies.
  • Two new units for Good side: Elven Knight (Elf Warden) and Rohan Archer. They are upgradeable and usable for AI bots.
  • 17 new heroes, of which 9 campaign units were converted to heroes. 26 heroes total!
  • Heroes level up more powerful than before. Kind-of balanced.
  • Giant Ent, Balrog, Battering Ram and more is trainable for juicy prices.
  • AI bots will use Giant Ent and Balrog if they have the resources.
  • Trolls and Huorn will now crush infantry like ants.
  • More realistic damage multipliers between units, also called unit-counters.
  • A lot of adjustments spread all over the place.

Core balancing:
  • Troll Bonecleaver has no longer a 0.5x damage multiplier versus Huorn. The multipliers are now neutral.
  • Huorn's spell "Tree Form" has a reduced stun duration from 8 to 5 seconds. It will stand still and heal for the rest of the time.
  • Evil side can summon a clone of Grishnakh called "Orcflanc Orc" and another clone of King of Nazgul called "Khamul", to be used against the powerful Good side hero squad. The Good side, as well as Evil side, has a lot of another campaign heroes to summon however.
  • King of Nazgul (and Khamul) have easier to level up with the help of poisoning attacks. This hero usually get harrassed by the AI, probably because of his "rank" property.
  • Adjusted for bigger maps with more resources.
  • Both sides can build their "Battering Ram" for siege purposes.

Changes from version v0.3:
  • A lot of campaign units and heroes had to be disabled for AI bots. The game doesn't freeze as often now.
  • Converted 9 units into heroes: Orc Captain, Uruk-Hai Captain, Troll Bonecleaver Boss, Shelob, Baby Spider, Corrupted Soul, Varin, and Belenthrond.
  • Trolls and Huorn are totally up-sized in their power. They cost much more and are crucial to the late-game.
  • Balrog and Giant Ent are limited to one unit at a time.
  • The resource settings Low, Medium and High yields 9'000, 13'500 and 99'999.
  • The hero "Khamul" have a low aura of damage, which will level him up.
  • Arrow attacks make only 20 % of their damage to buildings.

Fixes in version v0.4.1:
  • Giant Ent and Theoden are now buildable again. There was an issue getting allowed to build them.



Q: Will you be updating this mod?
A: Probably... that would be at a very low pace.

Q: Can you add more features, such as flying dragons and pigs?
A: I wish I could. The current tools and accessibility to the game files are very limited. One would need the source code...

Normally no, but you can use this tool to unpack the Levels.H20 file in the Archives folder.

You might need some DLL files too.

And then you should rename the modified map in its level properties (you do this inside the World Editor), so you can distinguish the two maps in the game menu.

Soo you mean the game can not create the savefile, and not being a loading error?
Something in my mind thinks that I've stumbled upon this error myself once... but I am using Windows 7. However:

  • Are you using unusual symbols for your save and/or profile name?
  • Have you tried running the game as administrator?

Good to hear that you play my sloppy mod! The FOS maps can sure take forever and needs a lot of saving! Cheesy

90% of the times I play this game I end up playing Boneyard (classic 8 players) map on skirmish. It's hands down my favourite.
But I'd like to try this same map with different Places of Power. Is this possible? I've tried looking for the .wor in game files but I couldn't find anything.

Hi, first of all, let me thank you for this forum. War of the Ring was a good piece of my childhood.

So, my problem.
I have an original copy of this game and an updated (patched) version I found here. Every time I play in Campaign mode or Skirmish and I try to save the game it gives me a "name" error. Basically, every time I have to restart everything.

I tried on 3 different computers, with Windows 10. I'm sure it worked on 8, but now I can't save. Anyone has a solution?
I have the same problem with PalMz' Insane Warfare Mod v0.3 as well.

Hi All,

I'm back.   Grin

I know that you can purchase LBA on GOG (which supports the original developers), but if you already own that version of the game or the originally released version (and can't figure out how to get these games to work on your modern operation systems), I figured out how the old LBAHQ releases worked, fixed some problems I found in them, and re-released them.

They are true to the original game.  No modifications have been made.  Replay it as it was originally released on Windows XP through Windows 10 via DosBox easy integration.  Just double click on the shortcuts to play.  I also included the language changer tool in this version, and it's super easy to play the game in its original glory.
